Randall Residence
Interior Renovation

A complete renovation of the public spaces of a small 50's bungalow in Alta Vista.  The focus was on enlarging and opening the kitchen and make the living and entry more efficient.  This was all done within the existing footprint by removing interior walls and cabinetry, and expanding window openings.  The final result is a open kitchen and dining with lots of built-in storage and an abundance of natural light.  The living became a very useable nook with a study and built-in couch.  On the other side of the couch is a closet, custom shoe storage and bench to serve the entry.

The aim was to minimize structural changes and use simple materials to keep costs under control.  The cabinetry is composed of exposed russian birch plywood and lacquered mdf panels.  The kitchen used laminate on russian plywood for the countertops and stainless steel backsplashes for easy to clean finish and a visually minimal look.
